Sreesanth – the Crybaby Cricketer

Kings XI Punjab’s pacer Sreesanth would have been quite a relieved person when the 42nd match of IPL-2 came to a ‘peaceful’ ending at the SuperSport Park, Centurion on Tuesday.

Though he bowled just an over against the Mumbai Indians on that day, it came wrapped in gift paper for the opponents as they saw 21 runs being added to their scorecard by the end of this over.

It seems that Sreesanth’s ear still echoes with the sound of Harbhajan’s slap which came on his cheek a year ago during the inaugural season of IPL in India. But, this time it was Dwyane Bravo who gave him a good bashing at Centurion.

Only 14 runs had come off the first four overs for Mumbai when Sreesanth came into the attack, and Bravo duly seized the opportunity, pulling him for four, straight-driving and flicking him over long-on for two glorious sixes, and then through midwicket for another four as the over leaked 21 runs with ease.

Sreesanth might have thanked his Gods as this blow from the West Indian was nothing in front of what he suffered a year ago. Punjab’s skipper Yuvraj displayed his captaincy skills in understanding the mental state of Sreesanth and did not ask him to aggravate his ‘pain’ by bowling another over.

It seems Sreesanth’s life is not full of roses as a thorn from a rose that he offered to a girl in reel life while shooting for an advertisement has pricked him so deep that he saw undated phone calls coming from his parents and friends in Bangalore a week before. The reason of their concern was a newspaper report in which struggling actress and model Daisy Bopanna claimed that Sree and she were ‘more than just good friends’.

Daisy claimed that in the ad Sreesanth proposed to her with a rose and even after the shoot was over Sree would keep SMSing her, telling her that he was still waiting for an answer. Read More...
